The fun starts with planning your Nordic walking tour in Bad Griesbach: Choose one or more routes from one of the largest trail networks in Germany. The 242 km network leaves nothing to be desired.




Wolf’s Trail

This short, easy tour of just under 4 km offers beautiful viewpoints. Starting from the hotel, the path leads into the Bad Griesbach district of Schwaim and then returns past the spa park and through the Bad Griesbach-Therme. There are two heart rate monitoring stations along the way.

Hosen-Kotter-Circular Route

Starting from the hotel, you head towards the Stephanskapelle, where the route begins. It takes you along the Panorama Path, passing the spa center to the east, and continues on to Singham. From there, you march on to Karpfham, and the return path gradually climbs uphill.

Hartl Resort Course

This Nordic walking trail is named after our hotelier family. The route, classified as difficult, involves tackling the ascents of the Rottal hill landscape, especially in the last third. Starting from the Kurwald, the 11.2 km circular tour passes through Singham, the Franz Beckenbauer Golf Course, Maierhof, and Schwaim, before returning to Bad Griesbach-Therme.

The Right Technique for Nordic Walking

Full-body workout for your muscles

Walking with Nordic Walking poles turns a brisk walk into an optimal full-body workout with maximum exercise benefits. About half of the 650 muscles in the body are located above the hips, so with the use of poles in Nordic Walking, the abdominal, chest, and arm muscles are consciously engaged, strengthened, and trained. This way, 90% of all muscles are worked. The optimal movement flow gently strengthens muscles, ligaments, and tendons while simultaneously preventing joint overuse! Nordic Walking is an endurance sport that strengthens the immune system, heart, and circulation.

Nordic Walking can be started and practiced at any age. It is suitable for everyone, regardless of gender or fitness level. You determine your own walking pace!

The technique is easy to learn, so give it a try! Pay attention to the tips from our fitness trainers and focus on your gait, arm and upper body engagement, as well as the push and swing phases when using the poles.

Gait

 Take longer steps, landing with the heel, rolling over the outer edge of the foot to the big toe joint, and pushing off firmly with the ball of the foot. Keep the spine upright (no rounded back), but gently lean the upper body forward from the hip joints. Walk diagonally: when your right leg lands in front, use the left pole (no "shuffling" gait)!

Arm and Upper Body Engagement

A wide arm movement, with the upper arm clearly swinging forward. Your elbow joint should be only slightly bent. This creates rotation (twisting) of the shoulder axis against the pelvic axis, meaning the upper body is slightly rotated, which helps to loosen the shoulder area.

Pole Use (Push Phase)

 

Place your pole flatter on the ground, keeping your hand closed. Press the pole firmly into the ground, while pushing the heel of your hand further into the loop and pushing. Your arm should then be noticeably behind your body.

Pole Use (Swing Phase) 

With your hand still open, swing the pole forward with the other arm. Just before it touches the ground, close your hand again (as described above).

Tip for Nordic-Walking-Beginners

A harmonious movement flow requires regular training. In the beginning, don’t rush; it’s not about speed, but about performing the details mentioned above correctly. Be sure to keep your shoulders and neck relaxed.
